Summer food

One of my favorite summer food obsessions is cottage cheese and  tomatoes. I know, it sounds weird, but trust me, it's fabulous!

I grew up eating this for lunch on a daily basis throughout the summer. I'm pretty sure it must be a Kentucky thing because everyone in Oklahoma gives me funny looks whenever I mention I'm craving it.

I'm telling you, though, there's nothing more refreshing. Just a few sliced tomatoes, topped with cottage cheese and some freshly cracked black pepper. Yum!

Outdoor fun

So I know everyone is excited to know what my latest and greatest obsession is...

A swing set.

My little guy loves to be outside. All the time. In fact, we went on multiple walks each day last week because he kept lunging for the door. As much as I love to take walks, four or five times a day is a little much. I had to find an outdoor alternative (since my blow up baby pool blew away in the last storm).

I thought I had it all figured out when I bought one of those cheap Little Tike swings a month or so ago. But lo and behold, there is no good place to hang it on our back patio without the little one hitting the post or the side of the house. Neither one seemed like a good option. This resulted in a month long search for the perfect swing set.

I considered multiple options: wood, metal, and plastic. I immediately ruled out the metal swing set (despite my husband's plea). I then looked at the little tiny plastic sets that included baby swings. After contemplating this option, I decided that he'd probably only get to use it this year before outgrowing it (the kid is big for his age and I'm pretty sure by next summer he'd collapse the thing!) and it seemed like a waste of money. I had almost made up my mind to buy a smaller wooden set. But, the thing is, we have a wonderful neighborhood park three houses down from us. I didn't want anything huge. I didn't want it take up my entire back yard. And I didn't want it to block the view of the pond behind us. This left us with one option, the perfect swing set for us.

We bought the Step2 Play Up Gym (thanks to both sets of grandparents and the great grandparents). It's a medium sized plastic set that has two swings (we substituted our Little Tikes baby swing for one of the lap belts) and a slide.

Little man loves his early birthday present...he even got to test out the slide last night (with some help from daddy, of course).

I think he's enjoying it!
Now he just needs to have some friends over to play with!

Ahhh...how I have missed writing. It's funny. I never thought those would ever leave my mouth, or be in print.

As my mother could tell you, getting me to write in high school was one of our biggest battles. I distinctly remember my senior year of high school fearing college because I thought I would flunk out because I couldn't write. That all changed, though, when I joined the college newspaper my freshman year. Weird, you say. Yes. But I'm so glad I did. Writing and I developed a great relationship over those next couple of years. Hence the reason for this blog.

Many of you might be wondering about the meaning of my title, An obsessional life. Well, that's me in a nutshell. I obsess. Over everything. When I became pregnant I spent countless hours researching each and every baby product to determine which brand of pacifier would be best, or which diaper pail would stink less, or...you get the picture.

Mostly this blog is about me. My personal time away from the chaos of my life. Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining. I LOVE my life. I am married to my best friend, have the most beautiful and well natured son, a wonderful family, and the perfect work scenario (I work from home while my son naps). It's wonderful to be me - I just sometimes miss me. In my former life before kids, my personal/creative time came in the form of cooking, but having an eight-month-old has definitely put a kink into that. I still love to cook, but I rarely have time to be as adventurous as I'd like. We don't eat at 10:30 at night, so now my free time will be spent sharing my little obsessions.

I cannot say that this blog will change anyone's life, or provide any sort of expertise in an area. It will, however, allow me to share my little obsessions. Maybe someone, somewhere can relate.
